Alco RS-3 arrives at Arcade & Attica Railroad

The first non-center cab diesel locomotive has arrived at the Arcade & Attica Railroad. A&A #114, an ALCO RS-3, arrived at the railroad on July 13th, 2023. It was bought from the Western New York & Pennsylvania railroad where it was numbered 406. It was originally built for the Delaware and Hudson Railroad in September 1952.

The locomotive will be used in freight service, replacing the railroad’s aging GE center cab diesels. The railroad often needed to double-head these units in freight service, whereas #114 will be able to handle most duties on its own. Center cabs #112 and #113 will continue to be used in passenger service and only occasionally in freight service.

#114 arrived in operable condition and has already been placed in revenue service. It has yet to be renumbered; it still wears it’s WNY&P paint scheme and #406 road number.
