RRHMA at Silvis, Ill receives donation of Santa Fe B40-8W

Railroading Heritage of Midwest America (RRHMA) has been donated a former Santa Fe B40-8W locomotive by BNSF. The locomotive, numbered 537, was delivered to the group’s Slivis, Ill shops this week. Other locomotives of this type are still operating on short lines owned by BNSF.

When built in the early 1990s for the AT&SF the locomotive wore the Warbonnet paint scheme and RRHMA will consider this paint scheme when returning the locomotive to service. #537 has been inspected by National Railway Equipment (NRE), who currently has a presence at the Silvis facility, and the unit is in good condition. The locomotive will have a variety of uses for the organization, including the possibility of being equipped with PTC and traveling with Milwaukee Road 4-8-4 #261.
